Jay & Rhonda ponder Adobe’s decision to limit support for older OS’s for upcoming Lightroom 6. That launches them into a discussion of software purchase or rental models (like most of Adobe’s current products). Photography niches like dog portraits, photography of art objects, jewelry, food, minerals, horses, landscape and so on. They also examine if you can make money at these specialized photo services.

 In this episode, Rhonda and Jay tackle the weighty question “Does size matter” at least as it relates to camera gear.  That launches them off into a discussion of shrinking technology and from there they talk about large canvas prints and megapixel resolution.  Jay gives a lesson on what a “Mirrorless” camera is, and why a $28000. Phase One medium format camera is not for everyone.  Rumors of a 50 megapixel Canon camera are bandied about.  Why Canon and Nikon are letting Sony do it first. Jay drones on about “Depth of Field” as if there isn’t anyone left in the world who doesn’t know about it.  Jay asks why camera manufacturers are arrogant regarding instruction manuals, and Rhonda tries out some theories.  Rhonda must be getting a commission on Hoodman Loupes as she mentions them constantly during a discussion of the inadequacies of the LCD. Jay lectures on the differences between RAW and JPG file formats!

Jay rants on how expensive OEM camera batteries are and suggests good alternatives. Rhonda talks about the gear she uses and why. They discuss how pro gear can make you stand out and questions and comments you might get in public.  Jay goes all soapbox about the lack of eye level viewfinders on consumer cameras. Rhonda plugs the Hoodman Loupe again (does she own stock?)  Brief discussion of built in Wi-Fi in cameras and shooting from a painters’ pole.  Jay waxes poetically about color slide film and learning Photoshop.  Formal training or self-taught for photographers? Jay gets caught in a time loop and returns to the seventies. Rhonda has no choice but to follow and reminisce about her old Sony Mavica that takes floppy disks.  Jay discovers all his best shots were taken with non DSLR cameras.

Rhonda’s Gallery Show concludes at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Ironwood Gallery, and she shares lessons learned. Now her show moves to Mexico City. Rhonda talks about the photo she licensed to Amtrack. Jay recommends a Bluetooth speaker. Roberto Valenzuela’s Photography book on posing is discussed and approved. Jay lusts after a t-shirt, and Rhonda plugs for her new hoody. Both lament the lack of opportunity to wear winter clothing in Tucson, AZ.  Rhonda explains hercamera strap paranoia.
